A heart for a cherry tree

In the middle of the track bed of platform 14 of the main station, a small cherry tree has been growing for a few years. It defies daily train traffic and the most adverse weather conditions. Peter Wohlleben, expert on the life of trees, forester, well-known conservationist and author, discovered the cherry tree there in 2020 during a visit to Hamburg, described it in one of his books and mentioned it in talk shows. Because the cherry tree has now slowly grown too large, it must be relocated in order to survive. On 17.10.23 at 12.45 o’clock an ICE passed it, then the track was closed and Peter Wohlleben and an employee of the Deutsche Bahn dug up the cherry tree and repotted it. Peter Wohlleben took the little tree to his forest academy in Wershofen in Rhineland-Palatinate, where it now has a new, permanent home.
