Conversion in the Wandelhalle at Hamburg Central Station

Major restructuring and conversion in Wandelhalle in Hamburg Central Station. “New concept creates a lot of space for service and comfort”.

Hamburg Central Station is the busiest train station in Germany with around 550,000 visitors every day. In order to meet the growing demand for services and the increasing expectations of guests, the Wandelhalle in the main station has started a comprehensive reconstruction project and planned a restructuring on the 1st floor gallery. The goal is to create an attractive shopping experience.

As part of this ambitious project, the three large companies EDEKA Tamme, Rossmann and the Hauptbahnhof Apotheke will swap their current locations on the 1st floor gallery and significantly increase their sales areas through a conversion. Particularly impressive is the doubling of the sales area at EDEKA Tamme to now 850 m2 , making it the largest EDEKA store at a transport location in the whole of Germany.

The main objective is to expand the range of products and services offered by the companies in line with demand, optimize customer service and significantly reduce waiting times for customers. To achieve this goal, speed checkouts are being introduced at EDEKA Tamme and automation of medication dispensing is being implemented at the Hauptbahnhof pharmacy. This is intended to make processes more efficient.

The construction period of this project is 1.5 years. The first construction phase will be completed as early as August with the opening of the first new section of EDEKA Tamme.

The conversion and restructuring of the 1st floor of the Wandelhalle in Hamburg Central Station is a future-oriented response to the increasing number of visitors. The Wandelhalle remains a symbol of internationality and offers its visitors a modern, service-oriented and attractive shopping environment.
